    Hi,

I'm looking to replace my thinkpad 1x1 card with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 to make use of my dual band router. I was looking through ebay to find a card, but some listing said their card was compatible wit dell but not lenovo, and another listing said their card was compatible with thinkpads 420. They had slightly different model numbers, so i was wondering if it really matter which card I buy? And secondly, would replacing my wifi card void my warrenty?

    thanks

It does matter since Lenovo places a vendor lock on the Wi-Fi cards, putting a Wi-Fi card designed for a different OEM system will not work unless you hack the BIOS. The FRU part numbers you should be looking for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 card is FRU: 60Y3253 (or 60Y3195 for WIMAX models) which fortunately shares the same part number as the ThinkPad T420. I would double check with seller to see if the FRU number is listed on the card before purchasing it. On warranty as long you follow the procedures correctly then upgrading the wireless card should not void it in most cases, though Lenovo won't cover if you happen to break something by yourself during the process.
