Hello!
My X220 started experiencing the issue of a band of weird colours which I quickly realised had to do with the display cable plug coming loose from the jack (is that the name?). I opened up the screen and the cable seemed easy enough to replace. So, I bought a cable from Ebay and it finally arrived. However, now I'm not sure how you are supposed to install it. I guess the plug has to be routed through the hinge that holds the screen, but the cable plug does not look small enough to go through?
Has anyone done this procedure before? Do I have to cut the cable apart to push it through the hinge?
Thanks!

Really, no one?
Anyone got any idea what forum would be better to ask? -
All is shown in the HMM too. Given the symptoms, it could be a bad LCD as well, but the cable is less expensive. Why not just plug the cable back in? -
Anyway, FYI, I performed the surgery anyway without any guidance. As usual it was easy enough, being a Thinkpad and all. It did not however solve the issue, so I'm guessing it's the connector itself and not the cable that is faulty.
Given the symptoms, it seems very unlikely to be the LCD itself. -
Of course it's in the HMM. I'm looking at it right now. Perhaps there's not a specific video about the LCD cable, but enough on how to remove the LCD. In my experience it's very unlikely to be the connector, though I suppose not out of the question. Good Luck.

But it was simple enough anyway.
Since it's only a small part of the LCD, and the error flickers and changes colour and intensity whenever you apply pressure to the area where the socket is, it feels unlikely to be anything else.
However, seeing how replacing the connector would require changing the entire LCD, I'm not sure I will be risking it. Might be time for a new one after these four long years.
