I'm assuming because the ODD in the SL410 is 12.7mm, that any aftermarket ODD will work? Silly question, but am I correct to assume that the faceplate can be removed?
This is one thing I've never done. This is the one I'm looking at. Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 8X Slim Internal DVD Burner, OEM Package Without Software 8X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 8X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-R 4X CD-RW 24X CD-ROM Black SATA Model SN-208BB - CD / DVD Burners

Yeah faceplate should be easily removable. It should be held on by clips.

Thanks a lot! I happened to do a clean install of win 7 and was installing a bunch of games. The ODD had some difficulty reading some of them, and I noticed it's super sensitive to inbalanced discs. I think I'm definitely going to replace it.
