How is your thinkpad ?
Mine is well. Just two time droped from my bed to the stone floor. one time free fall from 4.9 feet because I got slipped. countless awkward lay downs, kneel on the lid, shocking table of course made by me, throw from 5-6 feet to my bed... will mention more when I remember more.
But It survived, nothing malfunction yet thats good news
But abusing keeps go on until i see what i expect to see

sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
I am callin' the laptop-protection police on yoU! lol
-
Did you do "stress test" on the new T400 ?
If not, can someone step us test the claims of Lenovo. I say we shouldnt just believe what they say. We should 'test' it out.
Roll Cage, Spill resistant .. we have lots of test and verify. -
jeff how much did you pay for your t400?
-
I would be slightly worried about the hard drive even with the active protection system, unless you have an ssd
. I haven't dropped my x200 yet...but I toss it around on plush things like my bed or couch.
-
Seconded. I dont get how one could mistreat such a beautiful piece of machinery. Do you beat your girlfriend too
?
Nice to see it holding up wellIm sure a lesser notebook would be horribly scarred or near death by now. -
finally a post that's not about people complaining
i had a nice laugh lol (BinkNR & sonoritygenius what jokers) -
I was walking fast with my T61 in my hands on both sides of the keyboard and I walked into the corner of a big column in the library. The lid shut itself on impact. It left a vertical dent in the plastic and the paint from the column even stayed on the lid. Cleaned it off and the laptop works perfect. No dead pixels , nothing.
EDIT :
I bumped my knee into the column too and it hurt like hell for 2 weeks. -
How about we encourage users to post any time they've hurt their thinkpad AND themself...I'll let you know as soon as I eat it on my bike with my x200 on the way to class.
-
Be sure to update us when you wind up breaking a boneand the ThinkPad remains unscathed
-
My sarcasm meter might be broken , but what's your point ?
-
LOL omg dude that cracked me up!!!!
-
For the record, I tripped over my laptop in one of the Lenovo messenger bags... on reflex I stomped down with my other foot...onto the laptop. I was horrified, so I "let myself" fall to the side.
My T400 was perfectly fine. -
One morning I got out of bed and stepped on something strange - solid but slightly springy - so of course I put my full weight on it and bounced a couple times... until it occurred to me that I had used my computer the night before and set it on the floor next to my bed. I quickly jumped off and checked the computer, but everything was perfectly fine, no damage at all. Thank gd the screens are as tough as they are.
I've also dropped it a couple times and had someone rip it off a desk by kicking the power cord, but it always survived with no real damage. -
Goodness gracious me, I'd be in a fit if I dropped my T61p. Yeah I know that it's strong and it takes the knocks but I certainly wouldn't be putting it to the test. As strong as it is, I'm sure that some areas of the Thinkpad are more "sensitive" than others.
-
I dropped my T40 a couple of times, broke the plastic shielding around the VGA port and put a minor cracked the palmrest, but no real damage. I accidentally drug it along a wall, which took off about 2mm on one of the corners (there is still a streak on the wall). Further, I am very cavalier with tossing my laptop onto "soft surfaces" like chairs, desks, beds, car seats, etc.
I do love ThinkPad durability. -
Wow, you guys are really putting the T400s to real tests, I am sure a consumer laptop would be shattered by all those treatments by now.....did you guys try to pour a bucket of water on the keyboard yet to see if it is spill resistant?
-
Or test the "air-bag protection"?
-
In May, I was driving back home from Los Angeles. I've just left my irrecoverable-by-normal-means T42p's hard drive at the Irvine OnTrack data recovery center. I took my T42p with me, and left it in the trunk...
The Thinkpad was pretty banged up. The beautiful FlexView was almost totally broken. The case was broken in some places, etc. It still turned on, and could have probably been useful, but being a 3+ year old laptop, my boss decided to get me a new one. So, I'll probably get the x200s soon.
What do I win?
I'll ask if I can get the t42p for some pictures, as I didn't take any... -
They really should put an airbag in the laptop. Position it on the inside hinge and if there is a big collision, the airbag releases and inflates
Alternatively, have the airbag under the keyboard and if there's a major impact, the airbag releases and the keyboard pops out. So many possibilities.... -
I have to say mine's holding up remarkably well. There's a little shine on the keyboard and a few marks on the lid, but that's it. It's coming up on its two year anniversary. I've not had a single issue with it. I think I did drop it once on the carpet once, but it sustained no damage.
My only real complaint with it is the dim screen. Compared to a bright glossy screen or even the LED on the T400, it's pretty dim. Cranked up it looks fine. You tend to notice it more when it's next to a brigher machine. I could see myself staying with it for a few more years. It gets ample battery life and has more performance than I need. I don't know that Montevina offer me much. The screen's good enough for what I do and I like SXGA+, and there's nothing else out there that WoWs me at the moment. -
I'm just lucky that my T61p has a nice bright (matte) screen. I usually have the brightness set at '55' when using it. To be honest, I've never actually seen what these 'dim' screens look like. Do you set the brightness to '100' for normal use? Because it's so dim, does it mean that you have to look at the screen up close?
-
Probably set yours to the lowest and you'll see mine at the brightest. The T61 WSXGA+ screen is about 30% brighter than mine. My last notebook was a T42 with the SXGA+ IPS screen, which is the best notebook screen ever. As much as I whine about it, it's not that bad. In a normal room I'm usually at 5/7,6/7. In a darker room I can go down to four. Anything below that it's hard to use for longer periods. I thought about picking up a 15" SXGA+, but I like the 14" size. I'm stuck for now. Here's a pic of my R60 next to the Compaq F560us. Can you tell which is the R60?
-
Compaq display on the left looks much better to me.
-
Hmm I'm guessing the one on the right is your R60. It's not the brightest, and I can understand why people are unhappy about it. You definitely wouldn't want to use your R60 outdoors in the sun
-
You reckon?
