How long does it take, several hours?? I have the complete set of 7 r&r discs from lenovo. I want to erase all files using something like DBAN, then get back all the factory installed softwares and settings/configurations.

If I use DBAN to erase all the files including the OS, I have no idea what it will be like. Do I press the power button to shut down the computer since there is no more OS?

(The rescue & recovery discs are meant to be used when reinstalling the OS, is it?)

How long does it take for the whole process of deleting (how long?) and recovery (how long?) to complete?

    Appreciated!

The DBAN is going to be the long part.

Does the process need interactions? (read: can I go sleep and just leave it running the programs?)

Just a few keystrokes to get it started, then let it go overnight and you're golden

It depends on how good you want the wipe to be. Some can be days, but I don't know why you're wiping it if you're just re-installing Windows.

Even the simplest 1-pass DBAN wipe takes hours on a large disk. It took over 4 hours to get to 10% on a 200GB 7200rpm notebook drive I had going the other night. I eventually decided it wasn't quite that necessary, and quit the process.
