I have been running R&R 4 on an R60 under WinXP Pro succesfully taking automatic/scheduled back-ups to an external USB drive (Western Digital) every night. Backing up both the C: partition (Win XP) and the V: partition (Vista) of the hard disk. R60 set up as dual boot (WinXP and Vista Business)

May be of no consequence but Disckeeper 2008 is running, defragging both Hard drive and USB drive.

After some quite significant work AND running the ThinkVantage software update process I attempted to back-up using R&R and left it to run. It is possible that the backup was still running when the scheduled R&R backup was due to run - I don't know - I had gone to bed!

When I returned to the PC the next day the message 'Backup Cancelled' was on the screen. I tried the manual backup again and the message was repeated after afew minutes disk activity. I tried to see what files had been backed up by attempting to Restore but R&R displayed 'No backups'.

It is possible that a version update to R&R4 was applied using the Thinkvantage automatic updating facility since the last succesful back up was taken - cannot be sure however. -(this is not true - checked update log and R&R was NOT updated - sorry)

At the moment I can neither read any backup which may have been taken nor create a new backup.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get R&R to start working again?

I suspect I need to remove the phantom backups which are probably 'hiding' on the USB drive but as R&R does not recognise any back-ups I cannot use the Remove Backup option!

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading it!

Follow on - don't understand why - but increased the number of incremental back-ups allowed from 5 to 7 and the next back-up has worked.
