I'm going to swap out the HDD on my new T61 15.4" and sell the HDD it came with. When I sell my T61 in the future I would like to restore the hidden partition that came with the drive so that the Thinkvantage restore and recovery will work at boot for the person I sell it to. Is there a way to do this so that I can store the information on a DVD to load back on when I sell the laptop? It would be preferable if it were free and didn't require expensive applications.

Yes. Make the recovery discs from R&R if you haven't already. Those discs restore the computer to factory settings, including that dastardly hidden partition.

Yup, it's easy. Start>Thinkvantage>Create REscue and Recovery Media> Bottom half of the screen for a recovery disk set. The first disc is bootable so you will only need a CD, the rest depending on ur size can be dvd(s)

Do you think the R & R disks that Lenovo sends you if you need also restore that hidden partition as well? I had a Lenovo tech tell me no, but I hear conflicting stories.

To answer my own post I have just discovered it replace the hidden partition too. I've done a factory restore without the disks. Not sure why Base administrator barfed that one time but you can just do a custom restore and uncheck symantec or other items. But yes, the partition is replaced I see now.
