Considering a x201s. Didn't really want to buy the dvd writer for the ultrabase. Can i generate the lenovo restore file as an ISO (to be burnt at another computer)or to a USB stick or alternatively to an external hard drive. Any advice would be apreciated.

The reason I need the restore image is I will immediately install an Intel G2 SSD.

I think you can simply make a restore file via ThinkVantage, no clue whether that is an ISO. If it needs to load onto a new drive one figures it would have to be ... but if you burn to USB then you would need to be able to set BIOS to boot from USB stick. A DVD image may be easier?

IUB is used to deploy images across multiple systems in a corporate environment.   there isn't much utility for it with personal systems.

the recovery media creation app is set up to burn straight to optical media.   i'm not aware of any methods to burn to ISO.

if you have a DVD burner on a second computer, share the burner over your network and access it that way.

Can you burn to a networked DVD+RW in Windows? I've never been able to get that to work. For what it's worth imgBurn is my program of choice.

Well, technically, if you can burn a DVD, you can make iso from it and create a bootable USB. It's my preferable method. Create an image iso file, add it to your backup and when/if needed create a bootable USB stick from it.
