I purchased my w500 without a DVD burner because I've never burned dvds, nor do I plan on it. Is there any way I can create these discs on cd to get rid of the the partition, or is there another way? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Let me understand you have a cd burner, but not a dvd burner? If that is the case then you can make recovery cds no problem, it will just take about 12 or 13 cds.
