    Hey,

I would like to restore my four month old t410s to factory settings? I can't find this option in rescue and recovery. I would appreciate it any help on how to do this if possible!

The reason why I want to restore my laptop is because recently my laptop has start to lag suddenly. Right now I am not sure if my computer lags only when I watch some kind of video, either on the web or using VLC, media etc but sometimes when I watch my laptop just becomes really slow and there the speakers produce "popping sound". The lagging is momentary. I thought this was an adobe flash player problem but when I uninstalled it, the problem still persisted. It seems the lag occurs when I try to run more than one program at the same time, i.e. firefox and VLC. This problem only started a couple of days ago, a few days after I chose to install all the thinkvantage updates, updated Kaspersky 2010 to 2011 and installed Cannon camera programs. Also, sometimes when the lagging starts, my computer just shuts down. However, when I restart my computer, I get no messages about a unexpected shut down. I tried to clean my registry using regcure but it didn't help. Does this seem like a software or hardware problem?

press the blue thinkvantage button during the initial laptop bootup, it would get you into the rescue and recovery console, which has the option for full factory restore option on the left hand side of the menu bar.

Thank you! However when I try to do a full factory restore, it takes me to the rescue environment, but when it starts the process it says back up cannot be found? I deleted the recovery media from my hard drive but I have a copy of them on dvd.

That would be why it doesn't work.

I don't think you'd be able to delete the recovery media cos they are separated from the disks you can see on the laptop. If you have a copy of the recovery, try pressing F1 when start up to enter the BIOS setup and choose to boot from the DVD driver. That'll lead you to fresh installation. Try that and see what happens.

I put in the wrong disk the first time. I put the media recovery disk instead of the boot disk and this allowed me to return my laptop to factory settings. Thanks for all your help!

BTW does a malfunctioning fan cause a system to lag?

I'm not sure how do you mean by system lagging. If it's about the speed you can get when you boot up and run programs, like photoshop or vedio edition, that's probably about the hard driver you have. I'd replace a SSD on my laptop and that's what I bought for my T410S. Fan only deals with the heat I think.
