New T60p, Windows XP.
Lately when I attempt to resume from standby, it wakes up and asks for my fingerprint, but once I swipe it, all I get is my blank desktop background. It never gets to the "cylon" (authenticating user) popup. I eventually have to do a hard shutdown to recover.
I've been tweaking the machine to my liking, but the only major things I've done to it are uninstall Google desktop and that degfragmentation suite, and remove a few startup items (Quicktime and Installshield updaters).
I tried "repair" options on a few of the likely thinkpad utilities, but that didn't help.
Any suggestions on how I can diagnose and fix this problem?
Thanks! -MG.

Desktop --> Properties --> Screensaver --> Power --> Advanced --> uncheck the prompt for password after standby option. If can't do it this way, do something similar in the power management utility you are using

Thanks for that, and it does resume properly when I uncheck that box, but maybe I wasn't clear - I -want- it to ask me for a password when it resumes, but after I swipe my finger, it locks up (not really - the mouse still moves and I can turn the radio on/off etc., but it doesn't resume my previous session, it just sits there with a blank wallpaper screen; no taskbar, no desktop icons, nothing).
So, hopefully short of a system restore, are there any utilities or steps I can take to diagnose and fix this? I looked in the system and error logs and didn't see anything that jumped out at me.
Thank you, -MG.
