Retro Lenovo W700 Question

I can get a W700 which comes with the Nvidia Quadro 2700m. Can the GPU be swapped with a 3700M (which was an option for this model). Can the CPU be upgraded? Also, if the screen is 1920 by 1200 is that the Flexview IPS?

Weirdly, I have the rare Lenovo 3700M, which I was going to use in another project. Is it a simple swap...just needing new driver?

Do you think the W700 is still a good machine?

So the display is TN? Which I guess means flickering PWM.

 

W700 cannot use MXM other than from Lenovo themselves.

Some kind of weird bios check.

No idea how it is controlled (direct or PWM), but it has RGB LED back-light, which works at about 1200Hz, which is high enough to be considered almost flicker-free. Best is to see it for yourself.

 

So the high brightness 400 Nit WUXGA runs at 1200hz? I didn't know that it uses RGB LED. Replacement screens are described as CCFL backlit (dual cathodes).

Does it flicker at all if you dim the screen?

Since you have both the W700 and the HP 8730 with Dreamcolor, how do you rate and compare the two screen?

UPDATE:

Apparently Lenovo started using an RGB LED variant in or after March of 2010, which was also used on the W701. Before that, the W700 used a convention Dual CCFL TN LCD.

The W700 that I can get was made in Mar 2010! No way of knowing, without digging into the machine.

 

Is there any way to tell from the W700's system information or device manager whether it has the upgraded LED backlit or the CCFL version? The vendor is some distance from me, so I'm limited by what he would be willing to do too ascertain which screen it is,

 

Sorry for the confusion I don't have the W700, only 8740w DreamColor and 8730w DreamColor. I know that W700/701 came with the same family display as 8730w DreamColor (LP171WU5), with slight differences, didn't know about the CCFL, so thanks for that. Can't tell from personal experience which one is better, but Chinese W700/701 owners claim that the DreamColor (LP171WU5-TLB1) is superior, hence why they have upgraded to it. The spec sheets of the two tell similar story, but displays are not only specs As for flickering - I haven't noticed it and I'm a bit picky, not too much though, so it's still best to see it for yourself. Just for example - most of the times I'm using it at minimum or ~20% brightness for a few hours and all is fine.

To check the display - Device manager -> Monitors -> double click on the display (should be "Generic PnP") -> Details tab -> Hardware Ids from the drop-down.
