I'm thinking of returning the T60 that I just bought for a different T60 with better specs through EPP. (Got it from a friend who works at IBM: can't believe I forgot he worked at IBM :( when I made my purchase)

Is it still possible for me to return my thinkpad? (I still have everything it came in: forms, manuals etc..) or it is too late since I opened the box?

    Thanks

You may have to pay the restocking fee depending on you persuasion skills.

You may also want to check the fine print on your purchase and the retailer involved. I am pretty sure that the last time I was in Circuit City in the SF Bay Area, they had a sign by the check-out counter limiting electronics returns to a 14 day period and a restocking fee of 15% as well....

I got my T60 directly from the website, and though the EPP cost is just a bit less; $20.00 less :((sure the price a bit less, BUT it has better specs)

    14.1 T60 I bought:

    Intel core duo
    1.83 Ghz
    120 Gb HD 5400 rpm
    intel pro a/b/g wireless
    1 gb ram 2 DIMM
    ati radeon x1300 64 mb
    CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24X/24X/24X/8X Max

    total price + tax = $1534.88

    14.1 T60 through EPP

    Intel core duo
    2.00 Ghz
    160 gb HD 5400 rpm
    ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless
    1 gb ram 1 DIMM
    ati radeon x1400 128 mb
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer

    total price + tax = $ 1,516.98

If only I had asked talked to my friend before buying

But looking at those specs do you guys think its worth it to return the T60 and get one through EPP.

And how reliable is refunds and what is restocking (I only have a vague idea?)

    Thanks

IMO it would definitely worth a try.

    1. For the 4MB cache (T7200)!!!

these wouldn't concern me that much since RAM is relatively cheap to upgrade, and a burner isn't something I NEED
    2. 1 dimm
    3. A dvd burner comes in handy for me

    Good Luck

The cache may or may not help much depending on what you are doing. EPP is definetly not returnable so you might want to return the other one before completing your EPP sale.

Nope, they changed that policy. However, you will be subject to a 15% restock fee unless you buy a more expensive thinkpad, then the 15% fee is waived. That is what my rep told me 2 weeks ago when I ordered 2 from EPP.

Under those circumstances, if he re-tools the order to higher specs (thus at a higher cost) will he be able to do a no-cost return? Even if it costs $100-200 more, it would seem to be a better deal, spec-wise.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the rep is wrong. Why would they take back only more expensive models? It doesn't make any sense.

Hey Zaz, just wanted to clarify since I've actually done this now. What I meant by saying "buy a more expensive thinkpad" was that you order a more expensive thinkpad when you request an RMA before your 21 days are up. THEN you are not subject to the 15% with EPP.

Example: I ordered a T60 Flex during that $250 coupon code and did not upgrade the warranty. I decided I didn't want to keep it before my 21 days were up, so I called my rep and reordered a T61 15.4 WS w/ discrete with the same specs. However, the T61 was still cheaper, but this is why I wanted to upgrade the warranty, I just added my 3 year protection. Therefore, I had requested a RMA, but had ordered another thinkpad at a higher configured price, so I was not subject to any restocking fee.

10 days after I sent my RMA in (yesterday), I received my money back in my bank account. Now I just wait for my T61 to ship...

When does the 21 day policy start? from the day of delivery or date of ship or date or order? Thanks
