It's back up - At least on the Canadian site......

Anyone know if there are any dimensional differences between that and the T510?

    Cheers,

    L.

What's the difference between the base W510 and the 'enhanced' w510? The enhanced version is $200 more, and the only difference i can spot is an extra 2GB of memory, and a 64 bit version of the OS (which is a free upgrade anyway).

Am I missing something? They both support 16GB of memory, right?

EDIT: Also, what's an "ultranav for FPR color sensor"?

Wow...you saved me another $200 - You are right...it's exactly the same except for those two things....I'm down to $1,670.44 now on a W510 with a docking station!

    Thanks!

I can't get WWAN in Canada - I have to buy an unlocked one from the UK. Either that, or I can just tether my phone to it via Bluetooh...works pretty well.

    Why it's still NVS 5100m, where's FX 880m?

Just ordered mine. About $1800 tax-in, with the Q820 CPU upgrade, 500 GB upgrade, and FHD screen upgrade, plus a displayport->hdmi converter and a SATA ultrabay adapter so I can put in another hard drive.

The only downside is that shipping will be delayed at least 4 weeks because they seem to be out of non-multitouch FHD screens...

From their website, only NVS 5100m is listed as graphic card now.

I just asked the same thing in the larger new model thread, but the NVS 5100m is back. Nowhere to be found in Tabook.

Is it normal for CTO's to have different specs that those in tabook?

    *edit*
according to notebookcheck, nvs5100 and quadro fx880 look like the same thing, but no clock speeds are listed or anything - I suspect they are very close to the 240m as well.

So, how to know this "nVidia GLM DG" is FX880m instead of another name for NVS5100m?

I suspect it's all just naming inconsistencies. I'd wager everyone's getting the same GPU. We'll know in a few more weeks.

They are all the same GPU anyways, no? Just driver differences for specialized applications.

If so, is it possible to change the driver yourself to make it certified by CAD?

Oof, another $177 to upgrade the warranty from 1 to 3 years. Is it usually that expensive? My T60 came with a 3 year warranty at no extra cost...

The enhanced one includes the broadband 3g/gps cards and Lenovo's "tweaks." The non-enhanced one doesn't have the 3g/gps card.

Well, I decided to go with a T510. The higher TDP and battery life difference (4 hours for W vs 9 hours on the T) meant more to me. I never game on my laptop so the 3100 should do just fine for my use, and the quad core vs higher clocked dual core was a wash for me.

Judging by your configuration specs and your signature, that W510 will devour your old laptop like a small appetizer ;)

I know, I've been meaning to benchmark this dinosaur before I get a new laptop so I can objectively compare the insane increase in performance.

i already ordered a t410 and just checked the w510 price. for only $35 more i could get the w510's quad core.

i know the battery t410 has +5 hours of battery life...other major differences? weight? screen?

i currently own a 12.1" dell 700m, and am stepping up to the t410's 14". if i were to go to the w510 with the 15.6" screen, how different would this feel to me? portability is big for me and so would the 15.6" be too noticeable in my backpack while riding my bike and going to school?

Well, I disagree with some of that. If portability is important to you then why would you take half the battery life just to get a little bit more performance? If the difference between a 14 and 15 isn't a big deal to you but portability is important I would recommend the T510. The Quad I7 consumes a good bit more power, not to mention the more powerfull Nvidia chip. Take your pick, 4 or 9 hours of battery life? Also, if portability is important, keep in mind the previous poster is coming from a 15.4 inch macbook. A 15.6 inch Lenovo will be longer and much thicker.
