Anyone have experience dealing with returns or replacement? I got my T420 today and there was a huge crack in the screen :( Wondering how long it'll take to get it replaced.

If you are in a hurry, and don't mind taking a screwdriver to your own laptop, I have had them send me replacement FRUs overnight before. Replacing a screen isn't all that hard if you are careful.
If you have the time to wait, or if you do not feel comfortable taking apart your own laptop, you might be able to get local service at an authorized depot. Some are better than others but I have heard of instances where they had a 24-hour turn-around.
    YMMV

I think the screen is not a customer-replaceable unit (CRU) unlike the keyboard, HDD, etc, so Lenovo will probably not ship you a replacement. You'll have to send in the T420, and if there's no other damage, the screen will be replaced. If the shipping damage is extensive, you may get a replacement.

It really depends on parts availability and your luck, but some people have had one-week total downtime (including shipping to/from and replacement work), which is pretty good. Others have had longer times.

usually if they have parts, they aim for a 5 business days turnaround, usually 3 to 4 days. If they don't have the parts you could wait 2 to 4 weeks.

So ask them whether they have the parts in hand, if they do just send it in. If they don't, do a DOA and use the reference number from the lenovo warranty service, use that number and ask for a new laptop (they will deduct the amount from your laptop and transfer the credit to the new laptop).

This is the best way to approach this problem.
