I'm going to be doing a one time removal of the palm rest to add more memory in a 14in R61. Is it truly necessary to use fresh screws everytime or can the screws be reused a few times before the connections start to suffer? Thanks!

Your post makes it sound like screws are a consumable.

I must have removed and reinserted the screws on my laptop 10 times or so without any issues. What I would be more worried about is refitting the palmrest correctly so that you do not introduce keyboard/palmrest flex.

You don't need to use fresh screws every time, just use a proper sized screw driver so you won't strip the screw heads.

As far as I remember the need for fresh screws are for some very specific parts within the mainboard or something like that. I read somewhere that it was recommended not to reuse the screw BUT for those parts only.

Don't worry about the ones on the palm rest.
