    Hi All,

I ordered X201T (i7 640lm) on 3/22/10 with scheduled shipping date of 4/11/2010 from the order status website. Well obviously it was not shipped yesterday. Instead, the estimated shipping date is 6/22/10 now. I think that 3 month wait time seems little ridiculous. However if I take i5 520um, it will arrive in less than 2 weeks. I can't say that a lack of x201t is hindering my work but it would improve productivity in some aspects.
I am guessing that Dell XT3 may come out if I wait until the end of June.
Should I settle for i5 or just wait? I will be using X201T for e-mail, inking on PDF files, words, excel, powerpoint, photoshop and illustrator in this order. The file sizes for photoshop or illustrator are about 300-500Mb. Also, powerpoint file size is also 300-500Mb with a lot of animation. I have other laptops as a desktop replacement or mobility purposes. X201t is really due to tablet functionality. I I know that this is quite personal and I didn't think that I would ask this kind of question here. This is my first Lenovo purchase, though. BTW, I can only pick Dell or Lenovo due to my workplace policy.
    Thanks for your input.

I just talked to a sale rep assigned to my workplace. He acknowledged a longer delivery time for x201T with i7 but he even seemed to be puzzled by 3 month wait time.

Yeah, it sucks, but what are you going to do. People used to wait six months or longer back in the day.

What do you expect here? You can wait or cancel and order with an i5. My own experience tells me one CPU to the next in the same generation of CPUs rarely makes a substantive difference.

Gosh! That was indeed a long wait! I have never heard of anyone waiting for that long for a computer! (this does not mean that I don't believe you, of course, it's just that I find it too mind-boggling!). Around what year was this? And, why such a long wait? And, how much did the machines cost at that time?

I waited that long for the 600, and it wasn't a personal purchase. It was for a Fortune 25.

When? Don't remember - check twbook to see when the 600s first came out.

Why? Because it took that long, and it was what I wanted.

How much did it cost? A Lot.

The fact that I answered you at all means that I treated your question seriously. I will definitely act accordingly in the future, however.

Thanks. Though I note that your answers to my questions indicate something quite different. Anyways, not much to be gained out of this exchange.

Take it easy man! OP is the one waiting here, not you.

@OP: Escalade the issue with the management or you can reorder with the i5 which shouldn't be sigificantly slower.

Thanks everyone for some inputs along with some interesting exchanges. :)
I had some bad experience with stepping down on CPU so that I wanted to make sure before stepping down. I have to admit that it was okay most of times. The other reason I am reluctant to re-order is that my workplace's direct lenovo order system is having some issues. It took almost 2 weeks to put my order into the system after submitting my order to the accounting. My sales rep said that it should be 4-5 week delivery time, which I would not complain, and would try to escalate my order. If it really takes 3 months to ship, it is a bad judgment on Lenovo's management side. I know that X201T is taken off from Lenovo ordering site but directlenovo site for my workplace still accepts an order. This is my first Lenovo/IBM purchase and I am already more than amused.

reading through the above exchange, jane answered your question in complete detail.   i fail to see any reason to read into what she said as anything more than answering the question.

fwiw, i've waited 4~6 months on ThinkPad purchases back in the mid-to-late '90s.   the 701c i purchased new in 1995 took at least 4 months to hit my doorstep and my 600 took about 6.   each were very expensive.

Don't cancel your order if you want a x201t , because you are not able to order any x201t ...lenovo removed x201t from its website

BTW, you haven't too many choice for core i7 tablet, HP has one coming soon (it looks very nice ). Dell has no news about tablet update, but I don't recommend, since dell's tablet use worst screen but more expensive.

    Very helpful reply! +1

@OP; as others have suggested, I would call and cancel the order, and just get an i5. You wont notice much of a difference if any in the real world. I have a T410 with an i5-540, and I can tell you it's very fast and responsive.

    I can see that you don't feel much difference in T410 because they are i5 520M (2.40GHz, 3MB L3, 1066MHz FSB) vs i7-620M Processor (2.66GHz, 4MB L3, 1066MHz FSB) for T410.
    The replacement i5 processor for x201 tablet is 520UM (1.06-1.86GHz, 3MB L3, 800MHz FSB) compared to i7 640LM (2.13-2.93GHz, 4MB L3, 1066MHz FSB). It appears that a difference is quite big.

What are you doing that is so processor dependent that makes it that critical to you?

Ah I'm sorry, I missed that it was a tablet. Still, between an i5 low voltage and i7 low voltage processor, you wont notice a heck of a lot of difference.

Well, I will be using this for powerpoint, photoshop, illustrator, or excel. So, I am not planning to do anything fancy with this. But the files I need to open are usually big. It takes forever to open files with my 1-2 years old laptops I bought for mobility/long battery life or a computer crashes occasionally. So, I don't expect 12 inch tablet would be lighting fast but want to make sure that it can at least open and do basic stuff without pushing my tolerance level. :)

Does your current laptop have a normal HDD or SSD? For the large files you described, the i5 should be powerful enough.

Thanks for the assurance. I will talk to the sale rep as well as my accounting department for the possibility/process of changing an order. My sale rep said that 3 months wait time is an error this afternoon but who knows. I should be grateful that it is not 6 month as someone said earlier. :p

Oh, well then definitely find out more information.

But that being said an SSD would be a bigger improvement overall with the i5 vs just the i7 sans SSD.
