    I'm new to ripping and need to backup some of my older DVD movies that are starting to get scratched up -- can someone recommend a good program? I have Windows XP. Thanks!

    DVDFab would be one. It's free, but the new free versions don't have the latest updates.

    The best ripper out there for DVD (and Blu-ray), that has continual updates, is SlySoft AnyDVD.
