So I'm planning on wiping my whole HDD clean. I want to get rid of all my partitions including the S: partition.
Now my question is, if I were to remove this S: partition and later wanted to reinstall Windows Vista using the dvds i created, would this system recovery (S: ) partition be placed back onto my HDD or would it permanently be gone?
I'm assuming its part of the dvds and will simply get installed, but i want to make sure before I wipe my whole HDD for Windows 7.

It would be permanently gone, the Lenovo Vista DVD doesn't recreate the SR partition.
Personally, I deleted mine too.

so the S: is the bootloader for the lenovo vista discs? deleting it would mean that i could not boot into vista right?

Save as in save a script of the current partition scheme. That way, in the future to have the information, should you need it.

So deleting it would prevent you from booting your Vista, but should not affect the actual restore partition. -
I believe the S: partition is there so that you can use Vista's BitLocker.
If you reload Vista and the S: partition is not re-created, you can run Microsoft's BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool to re-create it.
BitLocker is included with Vista Ultimate, Vista Enterprise, and Windows Server 2008. -

Seems kind of pointless to include the S: drive, because I think the answer to my question is a very small number. And if you would clean install Ultimate or Enterprise with the intention to use BitLocker you can of course create a separate partition yourself.
