    Hi,

I am pretty much decided on purchasing a T61. However, I am just curios to know if T61 has a S-Video out port. This is something I absolutely need as I make use of it almost every day to watch movies on my TV connecting from laptop. T61 is a model which pretty much satisfy all my requirements. So if in case it doesnt have S-video I would be terribly disappointed.

Can some one tell me if in case s-video option is not there is there any other alternative ways I could use T61 to connect latop to the TV. If nothing works I will have to drop the idea of purchasing T61. :(

Nope, no svideo output on the , though I'm sure there are some options for attaching to an external monitor. I personally don't do it, sorry I can't help. However, there is a DVI-D port on the Advanced Mini Dock if your TV has DVI.

S-video is only on some models in the R series. It's shown on Lenovo.com, go take a look at which ones are available.

Like Laptopguru said, the other option is to get a docking station for the T series.

Just plug in and go no where!! That will not work.
That's a good link, icky. Nice to see that some people use the search tool. ;)

If it's a high quality cable it shouldn't be an issue. Better yet you can purchase actual converters instead of a cable...I have found those to be more reliable in terms of quality.

Thank you guys for all your replies.. Needless to say that I am very very disappointed. I really wanted to buy T61.. but this one thing... It makes me more unhappy when I look at my 3 year old compaq presario having a neat s-video out which I used all these while without any issue whatsoever. Hmm.. I am still in dilemma whether I should just go ahead and order it.. need more time to think... :(

No... even super duper high quality cable won't work. VGA, DVI, and S-Video are all different signals. Unless the video card supports it (which it has been proven that the Thinkpad graphics options do NOT) it will never work.

in order for it to work, you gotta get the VGA to S-VIDEO or RCA converter. Only a converter can decode the signal from the COMP to the TV if you don't have the s-video built in on the laptop.

Yes, that's right. And for links and more information on that, the link posted by ickysmits on the first page is a good place to start.
