Hmmm, I've been hesitating whether to get an S10 or x61s (prices very different, I know). In the process I just became aware of a "con" in each: x61s has no touchpad, while S10 has no trackpoint. Perhaps the best way is to always carry a mouse?

A better question would be, why would you need both a trackpoint and a touchpad. Are you going to use both, or choose one depending on the mood of the day

x61s would just be a fuller laptop in general in both power and usability. I'd go with that if you can afford that. The trackpoint is just fine if you like it at all :).

Go with what every you use the most.

I recently got a notebook with a touchpad....i returned it and went back to my x200s as i like the trackpoint better.

Thanks for your input. I finally went with the full Thinkpad. A decisive reason? Get 4:3 before it disappears from the earth :D Another reason is the keyboard. Hopefully my trackpoint skills will grow better with the use of it. :D

    Good choice. :D

And you'll definitely get used to the TrackPoint. I remember how awkward it was for me at first, but eventually I started liking it more and more. Now I use it at sensitivity level 7 of 9. As little force as possible. :D

So true. My TrackPoint sensitivity is at max right now.

I remember when I first received my ThinkPad, I used the TouchPad maybe twice, then switched to TrackPoint because it was so much more enjoyable. Ever since, I've completely disabled the TouchPad from BIOS and in Windows.

Same here. Actually, had there been a choice to opt out of the touchpad altogether (and I knew how great the TrackPoint was), I would have done so. It just gets in the way now. :p

Actually, I tolerate my touchpad only because it offers a single-finger scrolling.
Note also that in the X series laptops, the TrackPoint - due to a shorter palmrest - is even more comfortable.

    TrackPoint is what you want.

I used to have a T40 with both, and used the Touchpad only a few times (it got in the way more than I used it).

I now have an x200 Tablet and love the TrackPoint and clean palmrest.
