I honestly dont think so, considering that the SL series is aimed towards a more multimedia end, then it offers a wider screen.

This is a guess, but I think T, X, W series will use 16:10 (or so I hope)

Damn, first the introduction of 'widescreens' and now 16:9 on laptop screen, this is ridiculous.

Considering the trend of shifting to 16:9 screens and how Thinkpads moved from 4:3 to 16:10, if the Calpella Thinkpads released in Q1 2010 are 16:10, they will probably be the last generation to have them...

I like the fact that it's not as "deep" as the SL400 but it looks like it's gotten thicker by quite a bit. Also I don't know about that glossy lid...

People said that about the switch from 4:3 as well. I don't care so much about the aspect ratio or resolution, but give me a quality screen and I'll be a happy camper.

    THAT THING IS WIDE!!!
But I like how the design is more in the lines of the T400s rather than the regular T400...

ZaZ, I thought you were all about 4:3?

16:10 is fine for me considering WXGA is better than XGA in my form factor in both directions, but if it keeps getting wider... pretty hard to keep that vertical space.

If i was more into games and watching movies then a 16:9 wouldn't be so much of a headache. But unless i do alot of spreadsheet, i don't really need all that the extra girth.

But i would think that Thinkpads as a whole would shift to the 16:9. given that latitudes are slowly been phased into the 16:9 ratio. So once the 16:10 stocks that Lenovo's contract manufacturers keep, runs out then 16:10 would another distant memory. This is also why i am keeping my unused T60 and T61 with 14.1 inch standard aspect ratio in wrap stored in a low humdity environment with all the CMOS and normal battery removed. So that i can use them, if i need them.

I have a 4:3 and I love it. Not because it's 4:3, but because it's got boatloads of contrast and wide viewing angles. I plan to hang onto it until it's not usable any more. My needs are pretty modest. It should be a while down the road. Hopefully by then something better will have come along. Given a choice I guess I'd prefer a 4:3 because it's taller and easier to read, but I'd take a good wisecreen of a junky standard any day.

I don't mind it, but then again, I'm in the minority on this forum (though this forum itself is probably the minority in the population...)

SL410 is cheap that is for sure, it would probably hit the North American market for around 500 to 600 USD (4900 Yuan was given for the actual release price) using direct Yuan to USD currency conversion. I guess the new 16:9 does help to decrease the cost of the overall unit. If this is indeed the case, then the new SL series is priced very competitively against those laptops offered by ASUS, ACER, Compaq.. hopefully the quality is still maintained.

Well, as a SL I wouldn't say BQ is on par with the rest of TPs, bt should be superior to the BQ of budget consu$er laptops (though you dont quite get the "srtyle" of those lol)
    Nice pricing thhough

With discount and coupons the SL could reach Netbook pricing, interesting.
