anyone who has also T series & SL510 to compare it's performance side by side. I know it won't be as good as T series since SL510 has duo core.

but any info will be great since I am going use that as backup to my programming work. (SL510 costing me around $599 7Pro/500GB 7200 HDD & 15.6 (1366x768) & other std stuff)

I do coding and know that a Lenovo of any kind will be a good backup.

For the same spec the performance of T and SL series will be the same. I will suggest you get a L520 or something instead.

I might get G560 with T6200/2.13GHz/4GB/7-64bit/160GB 7200 RPM for inside $400 including everything.

I will try to connect my win xp preinstall HDD in G560. if that works it will ready made backup with all the program install to start work right away. Otherwise boot from eSATA port using old xp install HDD (not sure that will work though)

G560 with specs you mentioned sounds like a decent choice, however its LCD protection will be worse than that on SL510.
Other than that considering its 200$ less Id say buy it if there are no even better deals.

A resolution of 1366x768 isn't the best for coding, but for a backup I suppose it's fine.

Personally I'd prefer something like an old Thinkpad T60 with a 1600x1200 display for backup, depending on how CPU intensive the stuff is. The T42p in my sig is my backup.

I use my t400 as a backup for everything I do. It is my only server currently and it works wonders with a p8600 (slightly lower wattage). Im actually ssh'd into it right now about to transfer work files for off site storage.

my T400 montherboard gave up inside 2 years hence the need for another one. But hard to find T400 in decent price range and again it will used one.

instead of that G560 BRAND NEW for same processor series sounds like decent deal till I get my main W laptop from lenovo which is delayed beyond one can imagine (order 03/03/11 & now date has moved to 04/09/11.. go figure)

Sadly lenovo ships slow to the states. Took a loooong time to get my t400, but well worth the wait. Honestly if all it will be is a file server then even the cheapest hardware will work perfectly fine. The difference between my t400 and my much more powerfull xps when doing the same server tasks is the amount of deskspace I have left over. Currently I use my server as an ssh server, file and media server, offsite storage, and normal desktop work.

G560 is a budget entry level laptop, so i guess the purchaser get what they pay for. If you want better quality get a second hand T500, T400, R400, R500.

yeah agree but my 2004 entry level HP is still running (fan was super silent in the beginning but now it is making noise during CPU intensive thing)

anyways will try new L series or refurbish T series
