I can't shut off my X31 - Please help me somebody!

It's frozen & my mouse pointer can't point.

The screen is dark except for this msg:
Other people are logged on. Shutting down may cause them to lose data.
Do you still want to shut down?
    Yes / No

But my mouse pointer is frozen!
I had tried Fn F8 & Fn F9 (see my other post further down
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=138084)

    But still remained frozen

    These 2 are lit:
    (1) On/Off indicator is green
    (2) Battery indicator is green

at this point, pressing the Power On/Off Switch results in Nothing happening

Hold the power button for 10 seconds and it'll shut down.

Pull out the battery. That's the only way to shut it if even power off doesn't work.

Hopefully you haven't been doing anything important that you didn't save? Because just letting it sit there will most likely not return to normal; you'll have to pull out the battery.

I don't know how to get at the battery!

In my previous post I begged for an online diagram, since I couldn't find any such diagram online.

    Please help me.

close your notebook, pull the power chord out and turn your notebook over.

You will see a little picture of a battery next to a slide tab. Slide the tacb, then slide your battery out.

    hope this helps

    Hi, Sam!
Uh, I have a very slow system on my Desktop, with 256mb RAM, and dialup.
The IBM PDF still hasn't displayed, and I'm wondering if it ever will
(even though it states "Done" at bottom-left above my taskbar.

Yes, follow the diagram that elixiash showed and the instructions 808tech gave. They do the same thing, basically slide the battery latch and pull the battery out.

elixiash, thanks! Ah.. I'm trying to figure out the picture. I can't seem to get it to jive with my X31. I need some time to examine it, and will keep y'all posted.

Come to think of it, Is the Ultrabase still attached to the X31? If it is, I think you will have to remove the Ultrabase 1st before you can access the battery's latch.

One you're able to access the latch, just push it up to the unlock position as in fig 5 and lift the battery out.

I'm going crazy. I slid the battery latch.
Then I pulled a long lever on the side that may (or not) be attached to the battery).
Whereupon it made a sorta whistling noise so I got scared.

Are you sure you can take the battery out while the computer is still on? I'd be cautious.

It's OK. Just pull all that stuff out and let it scream at you. Once you get to the battery and pull it out everything will be OK.

Look at the movie I posted from Lenovo.
