I did a clean factory install of SP2 version 2002 -- and my T400 is running well after having had some serious bsod of problems. I updated SP2 as soon as I did the install and now MS Update is prompting me to update to SP3 and indicating it's a "high priority" update. Should I update to SP3? I've read some posts indicating this is not advisable per Lenovo and that Lenovo doesn't support SP3.

SP3 has been a high priority update for a long time—install it—or get rid of that legacy OS, Windows XP.

And replace it with what? Can you recommend a Windows 7 version? (And any good deals if you know of one.) Thank you.

Any version saved the 'starter' (which I believe is not available for retail) will serve all typical needs. Go for Professional if you need certain features such as XP-mode or remote desktop. Don't ever go for Ultimate unless you really absolutely need BitLocker, coz it's the same as Professional otherwise.

I bought mine through my school ($11.50 for Ultimate 64-bit), so don't have info about any good deals outside.
