Does the 1/8 in. headphone out support SPDIF out? It would not surprise me if it did. Maybe you can grab a 1/8 in to RCA adapter from Radio Shack and see what happens. It would cost a few bucks but if it did not work you could always return it.

SPDIF is digital, isn't it? and 1/8 in headphone is analog. If you don't wannab uy a docking station... then perhaps a USB soundcard?

...That is why I said you should try to see what you get using an adapter. My SPDIF input/output on my home theater system appears no different than a traditional RCA connector, simple coaxial.

I tried SPDIF on the dock and it didn't work for me. I had 1/8" mono plug to RCA coax right into the back of my receiver. Didn't work at all.

Hah oh man, I didn't even realize the rca out was on the SIDE of the dock. Too late now, already got a refund for everything.

In the sound card options (control panel) it shows for outputs that there's

    "Speakers"

    "SPDIF Interface"

When you select the SPDIF interface, theoretically, it would begin sending a digital signal through the Headphone output on the front.

As long as you get a 1/8 TRS male to RCA male...this should work, should it not? Even though TRS isn't meant to handle digital, it should be able to carry it AS LONG AS there's a RCA or "SPDIF" connection on the other end of the cable.

I have a advanced dock with SPDIF rca out... I will test to see if it can do headphone or docking rca jack. On my system I couldnt get anything working including the rca jack on the dock when I wanted to output digital audio.
