Meanwhile I am still sorting out the toucpad issue ... looks like I will be using the trackpoint instead of spending hours on trying to get a normally working touchpad.
Ok on to SSD options:
1. Am opting for a CRUCIAL MSATA SSD 256GB for the Msata slot;
2. I also want to put a 512 GB SSD instead of the normal HDD, I understand this needs to be a 0.7 cm (7mm) one, any recommendations for 521GB there?
Not sure if the Crucial 512GB SATA is 7 mm.
For my T61: I guess I will not see a difference between a Crucial V4 and M4 series as for speed (since the SATA III speed of the M4 will not work on T61, my guess is that the V4 will give equal speeds on T61)

The throughput of a SSD, like the difference between SATA II and III, will not be noticeable in typical usage. I would buy the least expensive drive in the size you want. All SSDs are quick. If you're looking for a 7mm drive, the Samsung 830/840 are a good choice.

Thank you Zaz ... and yes you were correct re half full glass ... my X230 is silent and cool, which for me are THE most important, I despise hearing fans when I am doing normal office work. This X230 does not even make any noise (barely) when I was watching full screen movie whilst it is running a Norton scan, and does not get warm. I had read about it getting hotter than the X220 but no such issue. So yes rather a Toucpad issue than the other stuff ... Back to SSD query ...
On the T61 I will probably put a Crucial V4 series. Now I read it's better to do a clean install of Windows onto the SSD but I only have 1 licence which will be for the Msata SSD on the X230. The T61 still has Vista on it ... any ideas? Should I upgrade that cheaply to Windows 8? Then clone it with Acronis and put it on SSD ? Or are there any cheap W7 to be bought somewhere? I only need a Home Premius W7 for that machine ....

Thanks for the replies. The crucial Msata will go in when it arrived and the clean install of W7 & drivers. Now has anyone tried a Seagate Momentum Hybrid Drive in a Lenovo yet ? 120 dollars for a 750GB HDD with a 32GB Flash ? Thanks

Seagate is a pioneer in putting a solid-state cache (between 4Gb and 8GB) right in the drive itself. I guess the latest waves of mSATA SSDs and 2.5" SSDs have rendered Seagate's innovation less relevant today. The all-flash combination of mSATA SSD boot + 2.5" SATA SSD storage (or 2.5" SSD boot in main bay + 2.5" SSD storage in UltraBay) is pure awesomeness.
SSD options x230 ...
