If I replace my hardrive with a SSD, do I still need to turn on Active Protection? Or would it be not necessary?

Its not necessary on the SSD, as it has no heads to park.

So this means... APS would be pretty much useless in the near future when all notebooks begin to adapt SSD? If I install an SSD on my T400, does this mean I can disable APS?
-
I would hardly say that hard drives will be replaced by SSDs "in the near future." Conventional hard drives are currently much much much cheaper, and offer much more storage space, while SSDs are much more expensive than 95% of consumers are willing to pay for a computer component. APS will be useful for quite some time longer. -
no more of the paranoia of bumping the computer causing damage to the drive
well, not disable, disabled. it will still recognize movements, but will not try to park the head of the SSD, because it doesnt have one.
you can disabled the APS completely to kill the miniscule system resources that the APS takes, but in my x300 which comes with SSD out of the box; have the APS enabled (still reporting movement) but it have the "park head" feature disabled.

you probably wont need 'active harddrive protection' as is packaged. but the accelerometer is still useful for applications I suppose.
SSD still need ?Active Protection'?
