    Hi Everyone,

    Anyone get this BSOD?

STOP: C0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

I had read a lot of Googled articles and done the chkdsk /r as well as replaced the ntdll.dll file but have gotten the same BSOD a 2nd time.

The 2nd time I got the BSOD, I had installed before the failure R&R v4.2 and had the express check capability that checked and replaced any corrupt o/s files. That seemed to work (replace the ntdll.dll) but still makes me feel uneasy getting the BSOD....I would like to know what causes the failure.

So, I was wondering if this is a BSOD known and solved by anyone else on the T61 forum?

    Thanks for any inputs.

The only time I have seen this kind of error, it meant that my HDD was going south. However, I have never had a notebook with Active Protection before, and I wonder if a sudden shock at the wrong time, or a glitch in AP couldn't cause this symptom, also.

    bsodder,

Thanks for your inputs. Yes, it's tough to track down. I think i did finally get rid of it, though. I had been re-imaging my hard drive after each bsod but the image itself had a bad ntdll.dll file! So, I renamed the ntdll.dll file to ntdll.bad and the RR4.2 software via express check found the file and replaced it with a good ntdll.dll file from the RR D: drive files.

No matter what the o/s error is in the future, though, I think this process is a good one now for fixing the corrupt file.....quick and affective.

Thanks again for your inputs. Not sure what originally caused it.....might have been a Trojan I found last week.

good to know - express check could be a real life-saver. Can you still access this feature on the HDD partition after you make a set of R&R disks?

I think as long as you have the invisible D partition, the express check is the first thing that happens after you press the ThinkVantage button at boot. I have my set of RR CD disks but ran the RR thru the D partition.

I haven't checked to see if the express check runs if you have no D partition and use the CD recovery process. I believe the express check will run because it is part of the same RR 4.2 process.

This process is obviously faster than booting up with an XP install CD and going thru the "old" o/s recovery process.

Good news - another good reason to keep that hidden partition...
