I'm not sure why but I have a 'Safely Remove Hardwre' icon on my taskbar. When I right-click, it says CDRW/DVD-ROM.

How can I get rid of this and am I supposed to getting this icon? I always thought that this icon is for external hdd's and usb-connected devices. Am I wrong on that?

it's there because your dvd/cd drive is removable.

You will not be able to get rid of it - since your optical drive is on a modular bay. I would not worry about it.

If you set it up so XP hide the taskbar icons, it usually gets hidden.
