Safe to place order with Lenovo via the official chat channel?

I created a quote for ThinkPad T520 on 13JUL2011. I didn't realize Lenovo quotes had 30-day duration. As I really wanted a T520 as well, I chatted with Lenovo Sales listed under the following address. The guy I chatted with said he would help me out place the order. He insisted he had to have my credit card details because he had to do the order by hand. When I offered if it was possible to call Lenovo official sales number and order via the phone, he said the official Lenovo sales chat channel is encrypted/secure and he take order via chat all the time.

Lenovo contacts: Contact Lenovo - United States
Lenovo Live Chat: Lenovo - Lenovo Chat

Never in my life have I given my credit card info in a chat channel, I am very much concerned about security.
Is it true that Lenovo sales reps take orders via chat sessions as well? Have you as a buyer done it before? Most importantly, is it secure?

    Thanks for advising!

    chat is secured via SSL.

however, given your location (which definitely isn't "USA" according to your current IP address), you'll need to order with a US-issued credit card and ship to a US billing address.   you can't use the chat tool to get around being in an international location and ordering from the US. ;)

If your quote has the 1366x768 screen by chance, cancel it, and re-create one with the 1600x900 screen. The 768 to 900 upgrade makes a big difference for quality and multitasking, and skipping the screen upgrade is not wise.

I have to agree. In hindsight I wish I would have opted for the wxga+ screen on my T410 instead of the standard wxga (which is 1280x800).

    Thanks guys!

As for ordering, I really didn't like the idea of giving out my credit card details on Lenovo Live Chat outsourced by some company called Direct-Alliance. So I decided to forgo the deal this time. Understood it was going to be a US sale and had no problem with US CC, US billing/shipping addresses etc.

    Yep I had the 15.6" HD+ (1600 x 900) display for the ThinkPad T520. Didn't go for 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) as I wanted to use this T520 as electricity-saving home-server.

Well guess I'll have to wait for another deal of ThinkPad T520 then.

doesnt feel like these guys were answering your question.
instead they talk about what you should and shouldnt order ;)

you giving out your credit info all the time whenever you made a purchase for anything. PPL could easlier have your CC info at any time.

what you should do is to watch your credit card transition from you CC company all the time. and report anything that is not yours.
