Here you go fellow ThinkPadders, pictures of the Samsung 14.1" WXGA LCD screen:

My screen is stock and has not been calibrated. My video card is the nVidia Quadro NVS 140M. ForceWare Version is 156.66. Each picture was taken with full hardware brightness (FN+Home). About the light bleeding in the first shot, that isn't seen in person, the camera shows it for some reason though. The last pictures are macro shots of the Wikipedia website.
Here is my desktop color settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel for each picture:
Brightness: 50%
Digital Vibrance: 38%
Contrast: 35%
Image Sharpening: None
Gamma: 0%
Feel free to ask any questions or leave a comment. Enjoy!![]()

Looks good!

sorry but i dont get it.....is Thinkpad changing there lcd monitors to samsung?......Is it possible to chose a pirticular monitor?......
-
Their LCD monitors either come from Samsung or LG/Philips. Samsung seems to be the more common one. I posted these pictures in order for potential ThinkPad owners to see that the Samsung screens aren't as bad as people make them to be.
As for your other question. Here is a post from Fignut's thread:
To satisfy my own curiosity, I also called up Lenovo support to see how difficult it would be to get them to swap an LG for my Samsung. I cited the minor display differences in viewing angle as my reason for requesting the swap. The operator (a nice guy named Clint, in Atlanta, Georgia) was familiar with the complaint (LG vs. Samsung), but clarified that Lenovo would not swap out parts for displays that were not actually defective. That is, if you send your T61p into the depot for service, and the display seems to work fine, they aren't going to swap the panel out at all. I asked Clint if it would be different if I upgraded my warranty to on-site support, and had someone come out with a replacement panel, and he kindly clarified that Lenovo would do diagnostic troubleshooting for the display, to determine if it was actually defective, before sending anyone on-site or swapping the panel. Even if you do manage to get on-site support sent, it's a crap-shoot at best whether they would have an LG or a Samsung panel with them. Clint said there's no way to know which panel they would swap it out with, if they would swap it at all. Lenovo might even make an effort to swap out parts with the same exact replacement parts, so there might be little to no chance of getting a replacement LG for a Samsung.

So is the WXGA+ 14.1" Widescreen any better?
-
How can you tell what brand screen you have?
-
I'm not sure, maybe someone else will post more information on this?
From the sticky.

How did you turn digital vibrance on?
-
Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. Fixed.
You can't on the NVS 140M because the driver doesn't support it yet. Hopefully it will in the future since the comparisons with it off and on are quite significant.
I believe you can install a different but compatible driver and enable it. Find more information here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/ -
Can you post pictures of text reproduction on websites? Maybe at macro levels?
-
Of course. Any specific website you want?
-
In the original post it is stated that digital vibrance is at 38%. On mine, in the nVidia control panel, it seems to be set at zero ("none") and can't be changed. I would like to play around with that, but the stock Lenovo nVidia driver doesn't seem to allow it on my model.
-
You have the 570M video card, I'm using the 140M. I think that's the reason why yours can't be set. You can use the drivers here: www.laptopvideo2go.com in order to enable digital vibrance.
-
cool thanks...I also have a wxga samsung 14in. I don't have any of the backlight bleeding that you have, other than that, it is basically the same
-
The thing is, the bleeding doesn't show when you're in person, but the camera shows it for some reason. Odd.
-
OK, I uploaded two shots of the Wikipedia website at macro levels.
-
Well, that screen u have looks real nice in the pics.
-
Woh. Maybe a little TOO macro level. =) Looks pretty good.
-
Heh, sorry about that, thought you wanted that sort of macro level to detect blurriness and what not. I know you converted your screen to Glossy from reading the other posts. How's that doing for you?
Also, in your sig, it says XP Pro Enhanced. What's that?
