Hey..so I was worried about the samsung 15.4" wxga+ screen and having a chicony keyboard...but I really like it!

Yea..there's some back light leakage...but I've seen worse...My taskbar is on the bottom anyways hiding it. The screen has this bluish tint to it..but its nice...I don't mind that it's not as bright as the LG...I usually put the brightness down, especially after using it for hours...(hurts my cones in my retina)....the keyboard is nice too...bounces back really quickly, therefore, allowing me to type much faster. The slight clicking allows me to have a little feedback as well.

So those of you who complain about the screen...maybe you have been jaded by really nice screens? I had a HP nx6300 before, and I think it was the same screen...I never use an external monitor or use computer labs...so, maybe I haven't been jaded yet...but I'll keep you guys posted!

Do you have any sparkle? Are you sure it is Samsung? Have you used PC Wizard 2007 to check?

eyecon do you believe me know ?

    "Re: Samsung Screen ?
I have samsung on my t61p and my friend has LG , i won't change my samsung with that , i think people are being very picky , my samsung is sharper, brighter and very clear, I am sure after monitor we will see threads will start about keyboard again.
And who is returning their system because of display? Lenovo even doesn't have T61p on its websites anymore because of some unknown issues ( maybe shortage on components ) and even when they have there is no guarantee with your next order what display you may get , if you return only The God knows when you will get another one and , I am very thankful that i have my system after long wait

but you are definetly right about me chilling out...to me..the most important part of a notebook is its screen...i mean that's what we interface with..not the cpu, fan, etc...the screen is our 'first look' and maybe i am going a little over board

I had the same problem , but when i used my T61p WUXGA compare to my friend's LG (side by side) it is sharper and brighter , I think its matter of personal preferences , Maybe Samsung is better when it comes to higher resolution or maybe they had some bad series in the market , but the point is we can't choose what display we want and order it as Lenovo doesn't have this option and how do you know if you return and order a new one you will get LG , it can be another Samsung or Phillips ,I agree about what you said " display is very important and i can tell you mine is great and its a 15.4 Samsung WUXGA and its really cool , keep us posted when you get yours I hope you like it , as you know there is no T61p on Levono website know ,

I remember someone saying the Samsung was clearer and sharper but that it may suffer a blue tint, and less brightness.

It is definitely clear and sharp and suffers a slight blue tint...the brightness issue doesn't bother me because I usually turn it down a few notches as bright light hurts my eyes after 10 mins of use

That's why, for long term usage apps like my Linux console, chatting, word processing etc; I turn my text to white on black, makes everything much more comfy for long term geeking :)

Why are you so mad? I mean...yea we could have had the so called nicer LG screens...but it's a toss up...would you rather have higher brightness or a better contrast and clarity? Most people assume brightness automatically equals better screen.

LG's supposedly have better color reproduction too...but oh well..im going to be ignorant on this....ignorance is bliss :p

just try googling your FRU for KB...you'll find out what kind of KB it is

nviews, at least I got one of the sought after parts. How do one look under the keys to verify the keyboard. Th NMB is suppose to be either blue or red under the keys.

look under the arrow keys on the right side, just peer under them. The NMB will have blue pads. Chicony will have backwards slashes, ALPS will have forwards slashes, lemme see if I can find the pic for you:

You haven't even posted whether you like the keyboard or not, but nonetheless you are angry about it potentially not being a NMB keyboard.

In case you don't find the keyboard to be good, would it change your mind if you found out you had a NMB keyboard (instead of Chicony/Alps) anyway?

Or let me spin it around. If you liked the keyboard, but found out it was a Chicony, would that change anything?

I find this behaviour strange - especially since it is not the first time I have seen it.

You don't even have to touch the keyboard to see under the left, down, and right arrow keys.

I've got an alps and I love it.

I also have the Samsung display. I made the mistake of cranking up the brightness right after I got it out of the box since I had read that so many people do that because they don't think it is bright enough. I have since learned that that washed out the colors making it look way worse.

I now have the brightness on max using the fn+home key, but I have the brightness at 50% in the nVidia control panel. Colring is MUCh improved. It's not the best... but it's not bad.
