Thors: did you manage to get your T420 to run the u2711 at 2560x1440 whilst running another two at 1920x1200?

I have a feeling next year Ivy bridge will fix all the external monitor bugs. Hopefully!

No. My T420s will not do that. It'll run 4 panels at 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 but won't drive the U2711 at 2560x1440.

I will probably retest some this weekend with the new T420s BIOS and video drivers to see if there's a change.

lead_org, I was questioning you because your statements lack enough detail to understand the point you are trying to make. Please be specific. Thanks.

" but it does suck at the lack of 24 inch + support, unless you get the W520" is flat wrong. That is MY point.

The T420s (Optimus) will drive the U2711 at 2560x1440 if you limit the number of external monitors to two. When you move to three or more monitors the max resolution I am able to drive it at is 1920x1200 though 1920x1080 looks better.

If you flip the BIOS to Discrete, you are limited to two external monitors. It also drives the U2711 at it's native res of 2560x1440.

Tested in the lab this morning with the following:
BIOS = BIOS Update Bootable CD for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad
Video = NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - ThinkPad

Thors: Thanks for the information, guess Sandy bridge isn't much improvement over penrym when it comes to external monitor support.

With the U2711 can you play 1080p video fullscreen? Is there any lag?
    Thanks

I bought an IBM T221 and two DP-DL DVI active adapters. I expect they arrive in about 7-10 days and then we shall see what the T420 + Series 3 Plus dock can drive :D

Wow, I didn't see this one, and great job even finding one of those T221 panels! I'm looking forward to see if this works and whatever pics you might be willing to furnish of that monster setup! :D
