I don't know how it happened, but I now have a scratch on my screen. It looks like it is on the inside and there are a bunch of little black spots around the scratch mark. Is there anything I can do? If it stays this little I don't really care, but I don't want it to spread throughtout the screen. Will it get worse?

Are you 100% certain it's not some juice stain? ;)
You can try alcohol + lint free cloth just to be sure.

    If it is a scratch,
what type of warranty do you have? Might give them a call anyways, just in case.

Yes, I am certain. It's not on the outside. I am not completely stupid.

It's actually my school's computer. I don't believe it is covered under warranty, but I am not exactly sure.

You can always call Lenovo and verify using the service tag number. Couldn't hurt. ;)

On the bottom of your laptop. The numbers following the TYPE: and Product ID: (Don't remember which is the one they ask for, so write down both just in case)

Have you contacted the school about it? My college had a great program for fixing and repairing school owned/bought computers(On site). Granted, your school may not have a similar structure for repairs.

that is probably a crack rather than a scratch.

    From your description:

it sounds like the scratch may be in the center-ish area of your screen, amirite? If so, it was probably caused by the middle trackpoint button rubbing lightly on the LCD when the notebook is closed and being transported. Every thinkpad I've owned has had this problem (all x-series) :(

I think it is a crack. The black marks had faded quite a bit, but now they are dark black again.

No, it's not in the center. It's on the top, not quite in the middle.

It says I have a special bid two year limited warranty and am entitled to parts only. I'm assuming that means a no on the accidental protection.

That'd be a no. But check with your school then, since it sounds like they've taken over the labor side of warranty work, they may be able to get the part gratis (assuming its believable that this happened without any abuse by you).

you will have to sort out this thing with your school, IBM support will be responsible for parts only. But usually the IBM support would not send out LCD that easily. You may or may not have to pay for the part.

If you don't mind DIY type of work - pull the screen out, find its type/ID and get the compatible panel from ebay for under 100$ (will require some googling ;) )
