So I'm a fairly careful individual when it comes to electronics, especially my laptop, but this year I began taking it back in forth between home and school. Unfortunately the zipper of my messenger bag has scratched the outer body of the laptop. It is not very noticeable, but just knowing they're there bugs me enough...

Do any of you know of a good product for helping conceal/ fill small scratches? I'm open to anything really, minus stickers haha.

    Thanks!

The outer covers on Thinkpads are usually covered with a rubber-like coating, and there's probably not much you can do with it. Although, in the past I have taped over the edges to protect them.

In theory, because plastic is solid, you might be able to polish out fine scratches with something like a scotch-pad, or even sand them out with fine >800 grit paper, but you would have to careful, not to make the plastic too thin, press too hard, or get any sanding dust in the vents.

If the problem area is only on one part, you may find a replacement part on ebay, or at Lenovo.

If you don't use it, it won't wear.

The reality is notebooks that travel a lot tend to get these dings. Pretty soon there'll be more and it won't seems so bad.

ThinkPads suck at scratches due to rubberized coating, once you get a scratch, which is fairly easy to do, youre left with it forever :D
I wish they changed coating to something more scratch resistant, because the rubber paint wears off very easily.

Do you think the tight-fitting sleeves some people are choosing for their X220's is a good or bad thing with regards to potential wear of the black coating?

My subjective opinion would be that given the softness of the paint/rubber combo used on ThinkPads tight sleeves/cases might contribute to paint wearing off faster.

Yep, bought a sleeve recommended in the 'cases' thread and it was so tight I couldn't even fit the machine into it. I think a few other people ordered that sleeve too.

I am surprised that no one made snap on cover as they do for the Macbook Pros.
