Is it normal for my t61 to have the lcd flicker or refresh twice when it's open the lid. Currently I have it set as "do nothing" on lid close. I've had my t61 for 6 months or so, but someone just told me it wasn't normal. Is there anyway I can fix this?

I believe it's normal for most notebooks. You can look on the CNET review of the Dell Latitude D630 where they open the lid, you'll see the flicker.

well when i open my laptop lid it flashes the screen as i left it, then black, then stablizes back on the screen as i left it. It looks very similar to when you change your screen resolution.

are you using vista? did you disable TMM? (can't remember what it stands for) It's the service/process about detecting external monitors, and it makes the screen flicker. There are a couple of threads here talking about it and how to disable TMM so you don't get the flickers, and I'm sure a google search would turn a lot of things up. Turning TMM off doesn't prevent you from using an external display, it just make vista unable to detect it automatically.

yea i have xp pro as well. seems like it's very similar to TMM problem in vista... I looked at the video arkit3kt mentioned, and the flickering and black screen is much longer than what was seen in the video and it does it twice or three times, not once.

    do you have intel graphics?

if so go to RUN in the Start menu and type msconfig

select Selective Startup and uncheck the two intel graphics item (they are like igx or something like that... forget exactly, but there are two intel graphics items there.

i did this on my HP nc2400 notebook which had the same issue and once those are unchecked the issue goes away.

i unchecked both igx graphics startups, but it doesn't resolve the problem. thanks for the suggestion, it's probably x3100 related.

Make sure all the power saving and auto-resolution features are turned off in the x3100 driver. I don't get a flash upon startup, although I do still see a delay.

sorry to bring it back up but to help others in the future. changing power settings in the integrated graphics x3100 properties fixed the problem thanks to all. display settings--> power settings---> uncheck all
