I have a T61 and when I dim all the way down, it will go all the way down then jump up one notch. If it is as dim as it goes then I try to dim it will jump down one notch then jump back right away. Is this something that Thinkpads just do? Or does it have to do with settings? Any help is appreciated.

Is this a conflict between mobility center and power manager?

Same problem with my R61 called tech support nothing worked. 38 minutes later he finally gives up and asks me if I want them to send me a box or if I want to take it into a service shop. WTF??? I just got this yesterday.

I'm going to try a system restore back to factory and see if it still does it. I updated all the drivers both Windows and Lenovo before I tried to turn down the brightness so I can't be certain it did/didn't do it before I updated my system.

So I just changed a setting in the BIOS. Config/Setup>Display>Brightness>change to normal

Mine was at high. Now the only thing is no gauge shows up on the screen when I change the brightness, and I guess I'm not sure if it is dimming down all the way or if it is that one step from all the way dim. Let me know what you come up with cisco.

Mine was set to dim in the BIOS. I also tried a BIOS update and the PM update and neither worked.

I finally gave up and restored my system to factory using the hidden partition opting out of a majority of the Lenovo software. It seems to be working fine now even after downloading all the windows updates and the chipset update from Lenovo.

yeah nevermind, computer just came out of sleep and went back to doing it. I have already done 3 clean installs and already deleted the hidden partition. I had problems the first day I got it. It would freeze up but the mouse would move. I believe it was the turbo memory and ahci. Let me know if anyone else has information on the screen though, I really don't want to have to do another install.

I finally found the real fix. The problem came back after I downloaded a few updates so I started thinking it was probably the video card driver. Sure enough, the NVIDIA control panel tries to regulate the backlight by default. For a fix try:

Start -> Control Panel -> NVIDIA Control Panel -> Mobile -> Configure SmartDimmer -> Idle -> Select "Do not use SmartDimmer when my notebook is unplugged"

That certainly fixed it for my machine so hopefully it will work for yours. Also I noticed that with the new NVIDIA control panel there doesn't seem to be a difference in the two dimmest settings any more when using the normal FN-HOME/END keys anymore. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that +50 is the lowest setting for the backlight in the NVIDIA control panel.
