When on battery (and only on battery power) when I try to set the screen brightness to anything other than full bightness, it returns to full brightness within a couple of seconds. I've tried changing it in the power manager settings as well as doing it manually via the Fn+end keys, but it always goes back to full brightness when on battery. Oddly, when plugged in I can lower the brightness and it stays where I've set it.

T61p, xp pro, lmk if there is any other relevant information I've missed.

    Thanks for your help.

Edit: Brightness setting in the bios is Normal, not High for the record.

Go into NVIDIA Control Panel and check out the PowerMizer settings.
