I own a T43 think pad, and the screen recently became very dim. Just to nip it in the bud I went ahead and ordered a new screen off ebay with a new inverter. After installing both, I still have the same issue. Is there anything that I'm missing or not doing correctly?

The screen is so dim I can barely seen the thinkpad logo when it boots.

Did you try turning up the brightness?

But of course. Sadly with no success.

Do you have ThinkVantage Power Manager installed?

If you do, create a power plan with brightness settings adjusted accordingly.

Could be the video card, or the power supply to the inverter - either one requires a new planar.

The vid card is fine, I can hook it to an external display with no issues. I doubt it 's the power supply to the inverter(just seems highly unlikely, the laptop hasn't seen much use in it's life). Any other ideas?

Did you check the brightness settings in the BIOS?

Yes sir. As far as I can tell it has to be hardware related and not software.

That's very strange. I think it is safe to say there is nothing wrong with the actual LCD. It too much of a coincidence that you would have two LCDs go bad so quickly.

I'd try uninstalling -> REBOOT re-installing the video driver -> REBOOT. I'm guessing you've already done that too. You could try uninstalling the ThinkVantage power manager all together. You don't need it. I use Vista power mangement... it works fine. If you try that I recommend to uninstall it in safe mode. I had trouble uninstalling it once until I did it in safe mode.

Do you get on-screen brightness control when you attempt to adjust the brightness. if not, uninstall the hotkey and system interface drivers, REBOOT then re-install them REBOOT after every uninstall / re-install. Maybe there is something going on there.

You probably don't want to go through a clean install, but if you follow the guide in my sig, it will help you along the way. You've got nothing to loose except about 3-4 hours of your life. That would definately rule out software related issues.

Other than that, send it in for repair.
