    Hi,
I have an IBM Thinkpad R50e and the screen has stopped working. At startup I see the Microsoft Windows XP logo but after that the screen stays black. I've connected the laptop to an external monitor and the exact same thing happens on the external monitor. Can anyone lease help me.
    Whats the problem?
    How do I fix it?
    What part do I need?
I'm desperate as I have an essay saved on the HD which needs to be handed in on Tuesday.
    Thanks.

Do you have a discrete or integrated GPU?

Have you tried booting into safe mode? Press F8 while booting. Sounds like a driver is hanging on the windows load. If it boots into safe mode you probably have a bad driver - check video first.

    Hi,
I just booted it in safe mode and it worked, thanks.

All I have to do now is update the video drivers?
