What's with the screen being off-center on the T400?

At least, in the pics it seems like the screen is a bit more to the right.

It is off-center. All the T series have the same screen shift and I thought I read somewhere that it was to allow space for the antena/wwan component but I'm not positive so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

In use, I barely notice that it's off-center and it was an issue that I thought would bug me much more than it does.

Its because your antenna is in the screen instead of the base of the laptop.

Quick quiz: Name a laptop on which the touchpad is NOT off-center.

Name a keyboard where the "home row" is centered.

At one time I thought the off-center display would bother me, but since getting my T400 I've found I'm busy looking at the contents of the display not it's frame.

How on earth can that bother you? It's offset by a few millimeters. Surely you don't make sure your desktop keyboard is at the exact center of your desktop LCD each time you use your desktop.

My Toshiba M45 has a centered touchpad.

The off-center screen doesn't bother me one bit. I don't even notice it. If someone ever asks me why it's off-center, I'll tell them it's to counter the off-center touchpad, for balance :D

I never said it'd bother me! I was just wondering the reasoning behind it.

And it's definitely more than a few millimeters off. Not a ridiculous amount off, but it's noticeable. Now, having said that, it wouldn't bother me, I was just wondering why.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at you, just generally at the notion that it's a problem. It's just I've seen people complain about that a few times and found it weird.

Same here. I’m a bit obsessive/compulsive and thought I’d have a big issue with the screen being off center. In practice though, while it is somewhat annoying, I haven’t found it affecting me at all when working with this beautiful toy/tool.

I've used a t61 for quite a while now and it hasn't been an issue yet, nor do I think it will be in the future. It might take a little getting use to, but after a short while, you will not even notice it.
