I've decided to replace my Dell Inspirion E1505 with a T400. The problem is I am not sure which screen option to pick so that I get a similiar look to my Dell. I like the high resolution and small icons on my Dell and I would like to get that on the T400, if possible. My Dell has the glossy screen which I'm fine so I'm assuming that rules out the LCD on the T400.

Can anyone point me to something I can read/compare or maybe explain it to me? Thanks...

What resolution is your Dell? What size is the screen, 15"?

    It's 15" at 1680X1050 with a nvidia GeForce Go 7300 card.

I found this thread which was very helpful. It doesn't appear that I can come close to the resolution of my Dell. That's kind of dissappointing...

looks like the best you can get is the WXGA+ TFT w/CCFL backlight - which is 1440X900. Anyone know if this screen of the glossy type or does it have the LCD look? Sorry if I am asking stupid questions.... Thanks.

All Thinkpad's have matte (non-glossy) screens. 1440x900 is the highest resolution for 14". Mind you, I think the resolution is just perfect for the screen size, but if you want 1680x1050 you'll need to go for the T500 instead.

I'm not a great fan of glossy screens, but YMMV. As for resolution, you're comparing a 15" and a 14" screen. As StealthTH said, The T500 has the option of a higher resolution WSXGA+ screen that will match the Dell

I was beginning to think the T500 might be the way to go. I guess I have some deciding to do... Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

A WXGA+ (1440x900) 14" widescreen will have very close to the same text size as a WSXGA+ (1680x1050) resolution 15.4" widescreen.

The only laptop I know of that has a WSXGA+ resolution on a 14" screen is the Dell Studio 14z, which has a 16:9 WSXGA+ screen (1600x900) as an option. The Sony Vaio Z's 13.3" screen can also have a 1600x900 screen.

All Thinkpads come with matte screens, as do most other business laptop offerings. The 14z and the Vaio Z are both glossy.
