I currently own a 15" 3000 N100 and this is listed as 6.2lbs. Although I enjoy having the real estate (during movies) but I also have to bear with the weight. I noticed the 15" R61(i) is listed as 6.4lbs and the 14" as 5.2lbs. I'm leaning toward the 14" as a new buy but wanted to seek some opinions.

For those owning or have experienced with both sizes, how significant is the weight difference? On the opposite spectrum, how have you cope with smaller screen and did you ever wish to have a 15" instead? What kind of sacrifices have you made (or noticed) when transitioning from a 15" screen to 14"?

This may be elementary but if the 15" and the 14" has the same resolution (e.g 1280x800), the print on the screen should be the same right? Maybe it's an illusion for me knowing that having 1" less just seems to look smaller when I'm at the store comparing the two screens

Lastly, those that bought the 15", did you ever wish to have bought the 14" instead? Conversely, those 14" owners, did you ever wish to have bought the 15"?

You will see the same thing if the resolution is the same, but it will be smaller on the 14" notebook because the screen is smaller. A 14" notebook is more portable in my experience because of the weight and size as well.

I picked up (I didn't buy it) a 15.4" R61 at an Office Depot while I was looking at the Y410, and it was a bit harder to pick up with just one hand. It still felt pretty manageable, though. It's not too bad compared to 14.1", but the extra thickness is there.

I prefer the smaller screen version of the R61. The 15.4" is too thick and bulky for my preferences, and it lacks the LCD roll cage (not necessary, but nice to have). The only sacrifice you'll have to make when transitioning downward is the decrease in the number of pixels, but since I don't know the resolution of your N100 I don't know whether or not this will affect you.

I do not regret my purchase of the 14.1" model because, as stated above, the 15.4" version of the R61 is too thick and bulky and lacks the LCD roll cage. A 15.4" T61, however, would be a different story.
