So I was REALLY pleased with my purchase.. it's running stunningly well and with the i7 on it's way it'll be even better soon.
That was until I fired up Acid - the screen res is just too low for being of practical use..bit of a shame really

I've seen a few modders replacing the screen with the 1600x900 variations - but I'm noting that the posts all seem to be a few years old (like the laptop :) ).

Are there other options available now?

I'm happy enough to install adapters, replace cables and so forth.

    Thanks.

You can replace the current LCD - presuming that it's a 1366x768 (HD) one - with a 1600x900 one, just make sure to get a proper Lenovo-issued panel with a FRU number and not some "compatible" piece of junk.

All the instructions and some of the FRU numbers can be found in the HMM, and most of the ThinkPad HMMs are available for download here:

    Happy upgrading

    Thanks AjKula66 - quick question.
do you know if there's a visual difference between the screen types when it's "on it's own"?
.. I've come across a few listings of the "top half" of t420 machines..where the seller clearly isn't aware (or doesn't care) that there are different screen variations.

I'm thinking along the lines of different connector lead,
cable exiting housing is opposite side..or something similar..

    fingers crossed.

The cabling is the same for HD and HD+ LCDs on these machines.

No "visual difference" when the panel is not powered on.
