In lenovo X220 mannuals, it is said at all the screws should be used only once. Does it mean that I have to order new screws when I install mSATA instead of re-using the original screws?

they reuse the screws all the time. This rule was probably something used only in the IBM days, where the cost of the laptop was more in line with the executive status.

If you want to be all pro and all, you can get new screws. You don't have to though, quite honestly I don't think Lenovo technicians use new screws unless there is a good reason to do so anymore.

I dare-say that the LENOVO OEM screws would have a dry LOC-TITE
type of coating on them, hence the the need for new coated fastners.

Thanks for all the replies. -
"The coating on screws was scratched a lot after I removed and re-installed them." QUOTE zmengcoh.
Yes, the coating on the screws is blue. (LOC-TITE?)

The depot doesn't add anything, they just reuse the screws to save cost.

I've never experienced any problems with screws coming loose or failing to function in any way after re-using them, and this includes my T21 which has been working for several years after opening it up for a thorough cleaning. I don't think there's any reason not to reuse any screws, unless they're stripped or otherwise damaged.

It is known as a "Best Practice"; it makes a ThinkPad a ThinkPad.
