After you've bought a new Thinkpad, if you want to sell your old computer, do you use a secure data eraser utility to remove your data? If you use such utilities, will it wipe everything even including the OS?

Yes of course, unless you want the new owner to have access to your SSN and other sensitive info. Use Dban to wipe the HDD to make the data unrecoverable. It will wipe everything including the OS.

Thanks for the info! But if you wipe even the OS, perhaps no one will want to buy your used computer? I've never seen an ad of used computer sale that says it doesn't have OS

I would reinstall the OS that came with it before selling it.

Well, you'll have to do a clean reinstall of the OS before you sell it obviously.

Ditto. You are asking for trouble if you just hand the new owner your current PC with all your juicy personal info on the HDD. :D
