Ill be gaming quite heavily on this laptop and so I need a good security software to tend to this need (wont cause lag, interfere, etc).

Any suggestions on what I could pick up?

I run Microsoft Security Essentials. Most of my friends run AVAST and like it a lot. I would try Avast, AVG, or Microsoft Security Essentials and see what you like. If you don't mind spending money, I've heard Webroot is very quick and lightweight.
