    Hi,
Does anyone have any thoughts on which processor to choose for the X40, the 1.1 GHz Ultra Low Voltage or the 1.4 GHz Low voltage? I'm going to be using it almost exclusively for word processing, email, and spreadsheets. My first priority is long battery life but I’d love some extra speed if it didn’t cut the battery time too much.

Would the 1.4 GHz processor have a significant cut in battery life or a significant increase in performance? Since both choices come with the 4200 rpm hard drive would the increased speed of the faster processor be limited by this and thus be pointless? Any help would be appreciated. They are only $200 apart in price and the faster 1.4Ghz comes with a 40 Gig Hard drive. For either choice I'd probably upgrade to 512 Mb of ram.

    The choices are:
    1
ThinkPad X40, Pentium M 713 1.1 GHz Ultra Low Voltage, 40 Gig Hard drive at 4200rpm

    2
    ThinkPad X40, Pentium M 738 1.4GHz Low Voltage, 30Gig Hard drive at 4200rpm

    Thanks.

Not to discourage you from the x40, but I like the x32 better than the x40. The x32 is a little heavier than the x40 but has a larger standard battery. You can get a larger eight cell battey for the x40, but it adds weight and makes it close to the x32. The x40 uses a 1.8" hard drive which can only be had with 4200RPM hard drive. This limits system performance. The x32 uses 5400RPM hard drive standard. Good Luck.
