hello everyone,
So I received R500 for Uni. But it really doesn't fulfill my needs as I need a tablet pc. so I'm thinking about selling it, and i'm wondering how much will it worth. I just received it two weeks ago. I did open it from the box but I haven't used it much.
it has lot of expensive licensed software installed on it. i know ppl can by pirated copies. but these are original licensed ones.
software:
Windows XP Pro sp3 (VISTA Business disc included)
AutoCAD R14
MATLAB R2008a
MS Office 2007
MS Visual Studio 2005
PSpice
SolidWorks 2007 SP3.1
swCAD III
computer specs:
intel core 2 duo 2.28 ghz
1gb ddr3 ram
150 gb hdd
dvd writer
intel display chip
and other usualy stuff memory stick reader, bt, wifi etc...
how much should i be able to get for that?
-
if you are going to sell it with those softwares, you need to provide a cd/dvd with it. i'd say around 1k is fair
-
I'd sell it without the software to be honest, you won't get the market value for that + the laptop so will end up losing out.

Go to eBay and search for ThinkPad R500, but choose the "Show Completed Listings" option. That way you can see what others have sold for, rather than only seeing auctions in progress.

yeah guys i know. but those software licesense them selves worth over 1K. so that doesn't count? I mean, even if i try finding some professionals who need them?

Sell the software packages separately. I'd imagine thats the best way to get the most money

Take off 25% of what you bought it for and start from there...
It depreciates like crazy once you say it is opened and used it. -

Looks like you paid a lot for that software. I don't think you will get your full value by selling it to the average lay person. For example, I don't use or want to use a single piece of software that you have. You would have to find a very specific buyer, which can be tough. I would try to see if you can sell it to someone at your University. Make up a little ad and post it around college. It is more than likely that there are people just like you on campus who need that software and are willing to pay good money for it. Or otherwise just keep it. Just don't want you to get cheated, since it looks like you spent a lot of good money on that software. -
And at the same time, if you cannot find a buyer at a price you want you will need to lower it to the point where you can sell it. If it is really worth it to you to get a new laptop and sell off the R500 do not focus on what you think it should sell for with your software licenses. Your purchase of the R500 is sunk cost and if you really need a new tablet you will just have to eat it. There is not reason to hold off selling the R500 (and not having the tablet) if you must get some funds for the new tablet. So just weigh what it valuable to yourself. Good luck.

You should restore the laptop to factory state (press the Blue button before boot) before you sell it. Keep the software for yourself and install it on your new laptop (the x200T is great if you can afford it).
-
Ditto. I assume you stil need the software on your new tablet so why sell it? Keep it an install on the next LT. Revert R500 to factory state and sell it for 25% off.
Here is a question? since you only have had it 2 weeks can't you send it back for restocking fee and order a tablet? I was htinking yo have 30 days to return. -
I think Lenovo's policy is actually 14 days, but I could be wrong. I'd say in your situation, you would probably be better served returning it because you would probably end up eating a larger percentage if sold.
If that is not an option, I say keep the software for yourself to put on the tablet you end up buying. -
I think it has been longer than that by now though :\.
